This is an interesting ramble through the Bronx from the Central Park Boathouse via Randall’s Island connector to City Island with return to Manhattan via the High Bridge. The route takes advantage of many greenways through Soundview, Pugsley and Pelham Bay Parks. The loop around the SUNY Maritime Campus beneath the Throg’s Neck Bridge is spectacular. An alternative option is to cut the less scenic South Bronx section short and take the Soundview Ferry to Shorehaven (pickup on Wall Street, East 34th, or East 90th Streets) where you can pick up the route at about mile 11.7. Cost is $3.75 with bicycle. Lunch options abound on City Island if Tony’s (open all year) and Johnny’s Reef are not to your liking. The return takes you on the Bronx River Greenway for a few miles. Most of the elevation is at the end of the ride on the climb to the High Bridge.
